I had done everything I thought I was supposed to do. As a Senior Manager in tech at a large global company, I put in the hours and did strong work. But year after year, the next level stayed out of reach.

In meetings, I held back. I was not sure what to say or how to say it. I watched the room move on without me. Hard work, I was slowly realising, was not the thing standing between me and promotion. Something else was missing.
